Every Solana transaction requires a transaction fee paid in SOL. Fees are split into a mandatory base fee and an optional prioritization fee that can increase the chance the current leader (validator) processes your transaction.

Base fee

Every transaction costs 5,000 lamports per included signature. The base fee is paid by the first signer on the transaction, and only accounts owned by the System Program can pay transaction fees.

50% of the base fee is burned (removed from circulating SOL supply) and 50% is distributed to the validator that processed the transaction.

A prioritization fee is optional and is used to increase the chance your transaction is processed during congestion. The validator receives 100% of the prioritization fee.
